Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism and strengthens us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit to live as faithful witnesses of Jesus Christ. Through the anointing with Sacred Chrism and the laying on of hands by the bishop, we are more deeply united to Christ and empowered to share and defend the Catholic faith by our words and actions.

The children begin preparation for Confirmation in the 6th grade and are generally confirmed in 7th grade. The Sacrament of Confirmation is normally administered in the Fall by one of the bishops of the archdiocese. Please refer to the list of requirements for Baptismal Godparents/Sponsors ( Sacrament of Baptism) as these are the same requirements which must be met by Sponsors for Confirmation.  Information on Letters of Eligibility for Confirmation Sponsors can be found here.

Catholics over the age of 16 who need to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are confirmed during the Easter Season by the parish priest by virtue of a special faculty granted by the Archbishop. They may also be confirmed at the Cathedral-Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Pentecost Sunday.
