Pre-Jordan Before Jesus began his public ministry, he was baptized by his cousin, John in the Jordan river. By analogy, before a person can be fully initiated into the Church he or she must first be baptized. Just as Jesus prepared himself for his ministry, so we must prepare ourselves before we receive the sacrament of Baptism. An adult who seeks Baptism celebrates the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A.) before he or she is Baptized; for an infant, his or parents and God parents attend Pre-Jordan class. The purpose of this class is to explain both the theological and practical aspects of the sacrament of Baptism. Emphasis is placed on the responsibility both parents and God-parents have in passing the Faith on to their children especially in the example they set for their children by the way they live out their Faith. During the class, a film is shown of a Baptism so that the participants will have a good idea of what to expect when they celebrate the Rite of Baptism with their children.
