Disciples In Mission

For the past 5 years, Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish has participated in the Archdiocesan Disciples program.  Small groups of parishioners (men, women, couples) come together in a facilitator’s home to pray, reflect, and share about the coming Sunday’s Mass readings.  The program began as a Lenten activity, but many of the approximately 130 parishioners who participate during the six weekly meetings during Lent have been so enriched in their appreciation for Scripture and its impact on their daily lives, that they have continued to meet in their small faith-sharing groups throughout the year.

Some groups meet weekly, biweekly, or monthly in addition to the 6 weeks of Lent.  Many of the participants express their greater attentiveness to and understanding of the Scripture readings during Mass because of their participation in the Disciples program.  The readings are now “alive” because they have been read, pondered, and taken to heart prior to attending Mass on Sunday.  Another benefit of participating in the Disciples faith-sharing groups is the bond formed with other parishioners who are interested in strengthening their spirituality and building up our faith community.

All are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the following ministries; bereavement, hospitality, and respect life.
